JESUS' GLORY 1. The deity of Christ has always had glory—even before the world was created (John 12:41; 17:5). 2. Signs and miracles glorified Jesus (John 2:11; 11:4). 3. The disciples and others saw his glory (John 1:14c). 4. The greatness of his glory is due to his unique relationship with the Father (John 1:14d). He is "the only-begotten from the Father." 5. His miracles showcased the glory of God (John 11:40). 6. Jesus did not glorify himself; the Father glorified him during his public ministry (John 8:50, 54). 7. Jesus sought to glorify the Father through his works and death (John 17:4; 21:19). 8. Jesus "received honor and glory from God the Father" at the transfiguration (2 Peter 1:17). This was a short and temporary glory given to his human flesh or the glory of the indwelling deity of Christ was unveiled and allowed to shine forth for awhile (cf. John 7:39). His flesh was a veil that hid the Shekinah Glory ("through the veil, that is, His flesh" Heb. 10:20). Does the deity of Christ indwell his humanity? Probably so—he indwells us! 9. Jesus asked God the Father to glorify his resurrected humanity (John 17:5). 10. The Father gave this glory to Jesus (John 17:22, 24). 11. The Father glorified Jesus after his death and resurrection—probably at his session in heaven (John 12:23; 13:31, 32; 16:14; 17:1, 5). Jesus' resurrection body is called "the body of His glory" (Phil. 3:21). 12. Jesus' glory emanates from his face and lights up his clothing (Matt. 17:2; Mark 9:3; Luke 9:29; Rev. 1:16; cf. Exod. 33:18–23). "The glory of the light" (Acts 22:11) Paul saw on the Damascus Road "was brighter than the sun, shining all around me and those who were journeying with me" (26:13) causing them all to fall to the ground (26:13). Is the glory of his deity allowed to shine through his resurrected flesh continually? In his post-resurrection appearance to John, "His face was like the sun shining in its strength" (Rev. 1:16). 13. Jesus will give us the same glory he received from the Father (John 7:22). 14. We will see Jesus' glory in heaven (John 17:24).
